Fight Back Blog: It’s Gonna Get Worse

It's public knowledge that Senator John Kerry, working with Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham, will introduce major climate legislation in the next few weeks. The legislative process of working with other Senators, building legislative language, etc, grinds on.

And when it is released ... prepare for the onslaught. As we saw every step of the way with health care, the obstructionists will throw out every single distortion and lie they can think of to try to confuse the issue and make people scared of the legislation.

But the truth is that we should be scared of continuing on the path we're on, not on reforming our energy economy and limiting carbon pollution. Currently, our planet is warming, creating instability around the globe. Our economy is dependent on oil, a diminishing resource, with much of it controlled by some of the worst actors around the world. And volatile energy costs slow down our economy and keep us sending our money overseas, lessening our prosperity.

Clean energy legislation and putting a cap on carbon pollution changes all of that. We can build a safe, secure, clean, and prosperous future. The only people that should scare are the big oil executives and oil barons around the world who may lose just a little of their power.

And it does scare them. And they'll try to scare all of us.

But we're going to fight back. Hard. And we're going to win.
