Fight Back Blog: Let Us Know What You’re Hearing

Today's a big day, with the public launch and all ... but this is just one landmark in the development of this contribution to the fight for the truth in our debate. The site is a work in progress, and it will always be a work in progress.
There are a lot of ways this site will continue to evolve and grow as we see what works, what doesn't, and listen to the suggestions of all of you. And, especially, as the lies and distortions change and evolve. This is where we really need your help.
Last year, I worked on TruthFightsBack with a different focus: campaigns and the smears around the campaigns last year. And the thing we all learned was that all of you hear of the attacks and lies way before they make their way to the conversation in Washington DC or the traditional media sources. Emails from your family members, things you see on local television or in the local paper, all of these add up over time, and often the worst smears start there and bubble up.
We want to make sure all of you are armed with the truth *before* Sarah Palin starts spouting a distortion.
The truth is that our opponents in this debate are very good at spreading a distortion for weeks or months before it becomes a part of the conversation. Take "death panels" from the health care debate. That was spread on conservative blogs and on talk radio for weeks before Sarah Palin said it. So when she said it, millions already believed it and were willing to fight for that belief, and the truth had to play catch-up.
Well, we want the truth to have the same chance as the distortions. And the key is hearing about those distortions before they "hit the big time," and make sure we spread the truth. So whenever you hear of an attack, let us know, and we'll get to work.
Besides, this can sometimes be complicated and tricky stuff, and if you hear something that sounds wrong, but you're not sure, let us know, and we'll set up a page for everyone to find the truth.
Thanks for visiting, and let's get fighting.
